KENNESAW, Ga. (Aug. 30, 2025) - Atlanta United 2 earned a gutsy 2-0 win against Huntsville City FC on a warm Saturday night at Fifth Third Stadium. Cooper Sanchez and Toto Majub both scored their first professional goals, while the 5-Stripes earned their fourth win in their last five games.
Atlanta continued its trend of scoring early at home with a goal in the seventh minute. Gabriel Wesseh delivered a corner that was headed away, but landed for Sanchez at the top of the box. The Homegrown chested the ball down and struck a right-footed half-volley into the bottom left corner to score his first professional goal.
Huntsville threatened with a cut-back ball from the left into Gunnar Studenhofft, who had an open opportunity at the corner of the six-yard box, but Dominik Chong Qui touched it away at the last second to put the Huntsville striker off-balance and Atlanta cleared the ball in the 23rd minute.
In the 28th minute, Huntsville held possession in Atlanta's box and Jordan Knight chipped a ball from the left into Alan Carleton at the top of the box. The former Atlanta midfielder took a shot toward the right, but Josh Cohen slid to hold on to the ball.
Atlanta closed the half with an incredible solo goal. Sanchez won the ball in Huntsville's half and Majub carried it from 30 yards out into the box, across the face of goal, combining with Ryan Carmichael on the way and finished his first professional goal to give Atlanta a two-goal lead into halftime.
In the first three minutes of the second half Atlanta had opportunities to add a third, with the best chance coming through a Homegrown combination. Inside Huntsville's box, halftime substitute Adyn Torres headed the ball to Chong Qui standing at point blank range, but Brian Schwake brilliantly parried away the volley for a corner.
Patrick Weah thought he had Atlanta's third in the 72nd minute with a through ball from Torres sending the Liberian one-on-one for the finish, but Weah was called offside. Atlanta was pushed to the limit defensively, but six saves from Cohen and five blocked shots saw Atlanta earn back-to-back wins and extend its home match unbeaten streak to five games.
