The home side controlled most of the match which forced Atlanta to stay on the defensive side of the ball for the majority of the contest. Armas put ATL UTD 2 on the scoresheet first after getting on the end of a free kick sent in by Matías Gallardo, scoring with a one-time finish in the 54th minute. Miami pulled one back in the 63rd after chaos in Atlanta’s box saw the ball land at the feet of Ian Fray, who tapped in a shot to equalize. In the shootout, Atlanta converted four of its five penalties while Miami had its second attempt saved and missed the target on its final shot.
