SEARCHING FOR FIRST VICTORY
Atlanta United 2 played New York Red Bulls II to a 1-1 draw at home in its last match to earn its first point of the 2023 season, but fell to the away side 5-4 in a penalty shootout and failed to acquire the extra point.
This came after narrowly losing to New England Revolution II in their home opener a week prior, after late goals from Raimar and Nick Firmino weren't enough to tie the match and it ended 3-2 in favor of the Revs.
So far in 2023, three ATL UTD 2 players have gotten on the scoresheet: Raimar, Firmino and Erik López. Winger Erik Centeno has the lone assist so far this season for the 2s.
NYCFCII IN 2023
NYCFCII has only played one match this season, which resulted in a 2-1 loss against Revolution II.
Forward John Denis scored the lone goal in that match -- a fantastic free kick -- which earned a nomination for the Goal of the Matchday by MLS NEXT Pro for Matchday 2.
