Located Marietta, Georgia, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground is a 33-acre site serving as the club’s headquarters for its First Team, Second Team, Academy, technical and front office staff.
The training ground originally opened in 2017 as a $60 million, 30,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility housing the First Team, Academy and front office staff. The club unveiled plans on April 11, 2024 to expand and transform Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, highlighted by a two-story, 20,000-square foot development that will extend from the original building. The expansion will include numerous additions and improvements for player health and well-being, a state-of-the-art content production studio and dedicated space for the club’s Academy and front office associates. The $23 million investment will commence summer 2024 and push total investment in the Marietta campus in excess of $85 million, bolstering the reputation of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground as one of the most prestigious soccer facilities in North America. Connecting to the existing east wing of the facility, full project completion is expected by summer of 2025.
Upon completion of the expansion, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground will feature:
- Six full-length fields (four grass and two FieldTurf) and two warmup areas totaling more than 500,000-square feet of playing surface
- Indoor footprint of 50,000-square feet with dedicated spaces for its First Team and six Youth Development teams including a tactics room and a classroom
- Sport science services including two gyms, two hydrotherapy plunge pools, environmental adaptation chamber, cognitive training room, recovery room and sauna
- Nine total locker rooms
- Full-service kitchen
- Natural grass show pitch featuring a 2,500-seat stand
- 2,000-square foot Truist Pavilion with two professional-grade locker rooms and a second-floor flex space to host international clubs and federations
- 20,000-square feet for front office staff, including two digital content studios, podcast studio, esports studio and press conference room.
In addition to its professional and youth teams, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground hosts visiting national and international clubs ahead of major soccer competitions in Atlanta. The site has also held youth soccer tournaments and open training sessions for supporters.
The original facility was designed by Atlanta-based architecture firm tvsdesign. The expansion will be led by Impact Development Management. Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio (RJTR) will serve as the architectural and interior design firm while Whiting-Turner is the general contractor.
The design of the site fosters an aspirational environment, giving the academy players the opportunity to observe and interact with the first team.
Construction began on the facility in February of 2016. In March 2017, Atlanta United announced Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as the club’s official pediatric healthcare system and the naming partner of the training ground.
