Dimitrios Efstathiou joined Atlanta United’s front office in August 2021 following more than a decade with Major League Soccer where he held the title of Senior Vice President of Player Relations & Competition.
Efstathiou joined the club as Vice President of Soccer Operations & Strategy and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Strategy in 2024. Reporting to President and CEO Garth Lagerwey, Efstathiou works alongside sporting director and chief soccer officer Chris Henderson and is responsible for managing the execution of all player movement for the club’s professional players, along with the administration of the salary cap and roster budget for the club’s First Team and Second Team. Additionally, he oversees soccer operations for the club including the facilities, security and equipment teams. Efstathiou also leads strategic initiatives across Atlanta United and the club’s soccer properties including FIFA initiatives and local government relations.
In addition to serving as a board member for Aberdeen Football Club, the Atlanta Women’s Foundation and the Gateway Marietta Community Improvement District, Efstathiou oversees the club’s $23 million expansion of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, slated for completion in summer of 2025.
Prior to joining Atlanta, Efstathiou worked at MLS, joining its Legal Department in 2011. As Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs for MLS and Soccer United Marketing (SUM), Efstathiou managed the day-to-day operations of the department and negotiated blue chip sponsorship agreements with several key partners for MLS and SUM, including Target, AT&T, Audi and Coca-Cola. In his role as Senior Vice President of Player Relations & Competition at Major League Soccer, Efstathiou led the department that managed the player acquisition process for each of the league’s 27 clubs. He was also responsible for managing the MLS Chief Soccer Officer Committee and working closely with the MLS Board of Governors’ Sporting and Competition Committee.
Efstathiou earned his juris doctor from Harvard Law School, with a master’s degree in law & diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and bachelor's degree from Vassar College.
Efstathiou is a native of Plymouth, Minnesota and he and his wife, Misa, are the proud parents of twins, Emi and Cadmus.
