Atlanta United 2 fell 4-0 to USL Championship newcomers Detroit City Saturday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Nelson Orji made his first appearance for Atlanta, while Cristiano Bruletti and Emenike Nwogu made their professional debuts.

A set piece opened the scoring for Detroit City in the 23rd minute, as Devon Amoo-Mensah headed a Maxi Rodriguez free kick across Justin Garces’ six-yard box. Captain Stephen Carroll toe-poked Amoo-Mensah’s cross from close distance to take the 1-0 advantage for the visitors.

Rhys Williams gained possession of a loose ball on the right side of Atlanta’s box, putting in a cross for Antoine Hoppenot to head past Garces and double Detroit’s lead in the 33rd minute.

Detroit City made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute after Matt Lewis sent a ball up the right touchline, which Hoppenot flicked on for Pato Botello Faz with his backheel. Botello Faz ran into the box and converted the opportunity from six yards out with his right boot.

Jonantan Villal almost scored his first professional goal in the 60th minute, as the 16-year-old rattled the goal post with a curling effort from 20 yards out.

Substitute Michael Bryant scored Detroit City’s fourth and final goal inside the Atlanta box, touching down a Deklan Wynne cross before finding the back of the net in the 78th minute.

Two Atlanta players would be sent off before the final whistle, Darwin Matheus for dissent in the 79th minute and Nigel Prince with a sliding challenge in the 86th.

ATL UTD 2 (2-4-0, 6 points) travels to Indianapolis, Indiana to take on Indy Eleven in IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET).
