Atlanta United announced today it has acquired $250,000 of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and $200,000 of General Allocation Money (GAM) from FC Cincinnati in exchange for defender Greg Garza.

“Greg was a consummate professional during his two years with our club and served as a good role model for our younger players while also playing an integral role in our run to MLS Cup,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “We want to thank him for his dedication to the club and wish him well throughout the rest of his career.”

Garza, 27, combined to appear in 42 matches with 40 starts since joining Atlanta prior to the 2017 season. He started all five matches of the club’s 2018 MLS Cup Playoff run, including playing 89 minutes in the Cup Final against Portland Timbers. Garza missed the majority of the 2018 Regular Season after undergoing surgery in May to repair a torn labrum but did score one goal and add two assists in 11 matches. In 2017, Garza started 25 matches and scored two goals with three assists, while being named to the MLS All-Star Game.

The MLS offseason continues today at 2 p.m. with the Expansion Draft, as FC Cincinnati may select up to five players. The league’s free agency period will then begin shortly thereafter at 3 p.m. Tomorrow, the MLS Waiver Draft is slated to start at 3 p.m., while MLS Re-Entry Draft Stage 1 will start on Friday, Dec. 14 with Stage 2 set to start on Thursday, Dec. 20.
