Atlanta United's 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls on October 5 was a big result for a few reasons, namely it kept Atlanta United's postseason hopes alive heading into the final match of the regular season.
The win keeps Atlanta from elimination and within striking distance of the playoff line with Decision Day up next on the calendar. With Nashville SC out of contention, there are three other teams in the Eastern Conference to keep an eye on.
Here's what needs to happen for Atlanta United to qualify for the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs on October 19. Atlanta United needs a win on the road at Orlando City SC PLUS at least two of the following three outcomes:
- A LOSS for CF MontrƩal at home vs. New York City FC
- A LOSS for D.C. United at home vs. Charlotte FC
- A draw OR loss for Philadelphia Union at home vs. FC Cincinnati
If all three of those outcomes happen, and Atlanta United wins in Orlando, then Atlanta would clinch the 8-seed and host the Wild Card playoff match on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
All four matches will kickoff at 6 p.m. ET on Decision Day.
