Atlanta United announced today it has finalized the transfer of Carlos Carmona to Colo-Colo of the Chilean Primera Division in exchange for an undisclosed transfer fee.
“Carlos was a valuable member of the team, but sometimes life becomes more important than soccer and we have decided to do what’s best for the player and his family,” Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “Although, it was never the plan to move him on, we were able to reach an agreement and made the best out of a difficult situation.”
Carmona, 30, signed with Atlanta United on Feb. 6, 2017 as a free transfer from Atalanta BC. In his first season in MLS, he made 30 league starts and chipped in two goals and two assists. Prior to Atlanta, he spent the last eight seasons in Italy and made more than 150 appearances in the top-flight, the majority of which came with Atalanta where he played since 2010.
Atlanta United opens its preseason schedule against Nashville SC on Saturday, Feb. 10.
