ATLANTA — Atlanta United announced Thursday it has sent midfielder Edwin Mosquera on loan to Defensa y Justicia of the Argentine Primera División for the 2023 season.
Mosquera, 21, joined Atlanta United last summer from Deportivo Independiente Medellín. He made 12 appearances, including one start, last season for Atlanta. The winger recorded his first assist in MLS on Aug. 21 in a 2-2 tie against Columbus Crew. Mosquera added a second assist in a 4-2 win against Toronto FC later in the season.
Prior to joining Atlanta, Mosquera made 55 first division appearances in Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. He made 40 appearances for Independiente Medellín in Colombia before being loaned to Juventude in Brazil’s Série A in 2021. In January of 2022, the midfielder was loaned to Aldosivi in the Argentine first division where he made 14 appearances and recorded four assists.
