Nonstop Access - 16x9

The 2022 season went differently than what Atlanta United expected.

"It was an emotional rollercoaster," midfielder Amar Sejdić said.

After an auspicious beginning that included a historic trip to Mexico and Gonzalo Pineda's first preseason since becoming head coach in August 2021, Atlanta United appeared to have everything ahead of them. The team kicked off the MLS season with an exciting 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in the first-ever opener played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The team would go on to earn results in three its next four matches. In the first five games, Atlanta United earned 10 of their total 40 points on the year.

However, things quickly changed. Season-ending injuries to Ozzie Alonso, Brad Guzan and Miles Robinson decimated the team's leadership experience. Brooks Lennon, Ronald HernƔndez and Andrew Gutman missed extended time. Atlanta United struggled to finish chances in games where they largely controlled the opponent. Additions such as Juanjo Purata and Ronaldo Cisneros provided a spark, but the inconsistency and injuries were too great to overcome. Atlanta United finished the 2022 season 11th in the Eastern Conference table. The club did not qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

Now, as Atlanta United heads into the offseason, players close the chapter on 2022 with authentic reflection and raw emotion -- and offer their thoughts on what's to come in 2023.
