Atlanta United U-19 coach José Silva has been named the 2021 UPSL Georgia Coach of the Year after a fantastic debut season with the club.
Silva’s U-19s placed second in the UPSL Georgia Division standings, finishing with 24 points and winning eight out of their 10 games to finish the regular season 8-0-2.
The team boasted the best defense in the Georgia Division, conceding just 10 goals. They scored 34 goals during the regular season, making them the second strongest offense.
After a stellar campaign, the U-19s earned a bye to the second round of the UPSL Georgia playoffs en route to capturing their first UPSL Premier Division Championship.
“José has had an incredible impact on our U-19 age group, and our coaching staff since he’s joined the club,” Atlanta United Academy Director Matt Lawrey said. “His work ethic and love for the game are contagious. We are so proud he has received this award and know he has fully deserved it.”
Silva came to the Atlanta United Academy this year after spending the previous three within the Orlando City Academy and USL teams.
Silva was presented the award on Wednesday ahead of the U-19's UPSL Georgia Semifinal match.
"Thank you to the UPSL and also thank you to all of the players, because without them this recognition would not be possible," Silva said. "This is a recognition of all of the coaches that coached these guys."
