Atlanta United Academy star Lagos Kunga continues to shoot up the ranks at the US Youth National Team – and now he's scored his first competitive goal for the U-20 team. In the US's World Cup knockout stage game against New Zealand Thursday, the 17-year-old came on the field late in the second half as a substitute to get valuable first-team minutes. But he got more something much more valuable than minutes.
Lagos receives the ball on the right wing, dribbles past a few defenders, plays a one-two at the top of the box and slots home a lethal finish just inside the far post. Lagos is playing up an age group, and while he has yet to break into the starting lineup, he has proven to be a valuable bench option for U-20 Head Coach Tab Ramos with three appearances so far. If he keeps playing like this, he may be pushing for starting minutes sooner than later.
