Two hundred and forty-nine years to the day after the founding of our country, the 5-Stripes will travel to the nation's capital to prepare for a battle with D.C. United. Atlanta United kicks off against D.C. at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday, June 5, hoping to pick up their first win away from home this season. The match will be available to stream on Apple TV's MLS Season Pass.
Head coach Ronny Deila will have more options at his disposal. Tristan Muyumba and Cayman Togashi return to match eligibility, as the two weren't named in Friday's availability report. An extra couple of days of training may have helped the two on their road to returning, as Atlanta United's match with Inter Miami originally set for June 28 was rescheduled to October.
Muyumba reenters the fold as an option for Deila's midfield trio in the 5-3-2 formation he's employed recently, though there's no ruling out a tactical switch for the D.C. United match. The Frenchman leads Atlanta United passers with over 100 attempts in completion percentage at 92 percent. He's brought ball-winning instincts and game-controlling possession to the 5-Stripe midfield when he has featured this season. Though we won't know if he's in the starting lineup until tomorrow, Muyumba's return from his knee injury is a big addition to squad depth.
Cayman Togashi, who suffered a knee injury that sidelined him for two matches, will also be able to suit up Saturday. He's made two appearances for the first team this season, both of them coming as a substitute in road matches. His pace and workrate are valuable assets as legs tire throughout a match.
Even as Atlanta United gets healthier, they'll still be missing some contributors for their game this weekend. The club provided an update on Jay Fortune's foot injury Thursday, and he'll be sidelined for a minimum of six months. Center backs Stian Gregersen and Derrick Williams both to continue to rehab lower-body injuries. while Josh Cohen nurses an arm injury. Bartosz Slisz was listed on the availability report as ineligible for match selection due to suspension for yellow card accumulation.
