ANDRUW JOINES

Andruw Jones – Former Atlanta Braves Centerfield

A 17-year veteran of Major League Baseball, Andruw Jones carved out a career as one of the preeminent defensive center fielders in the history of the sport, patrolling the outfield for the Atlanta Braves for the first 12 years of his career. A five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove award winner, Jones became synonymous with the Braves’ extended run of dominance in the 90s and early 2000s. He turned in his best season in 2005, when he led the National League with 128 RBI and a single-season franchise record 51 home runs on his way to a second-place finish in MVP voting.

A native of Willemstad, Curacao, Jones broke into the majors as a 19-year-old in 1996 and became the youngest player in major league history to homer in the World Series when he did so that season, going deep in each of his first two at-bats in Game 1 of the Fall Classic. He hit 368 home runs during his tenure with Atlanta, fifth most in franchise history, and was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2016. The club will retire his No. 25 in a ceremony this September.

Andruw Jones is featured in the 2023 Atlanta United FC production ‘Inside the 404’, where he speaks about the impact the city of Atlanta had on him as a young athlete and what the city means to many. ‘Inside the 404’ is a documentary produced by Atlanta United FC in collaboration with Atlanta Influences Everything, as part of the launch of the 404 Kit, Atlanta United’s 2023 third kit.
