Atlanta United forward Brandon Vazquez was selected by Nashville SC with the eighth pick in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday and then traded to FC Cincinnati. Each club that had a player selected will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money.
Vazquez, 21, joined Atlanta before the club’s inaugural campaign in 2017 and made 32 MLS appearances and seven starts in three seasons, recording three goals and two assists. Vazquez made 11 appearances and all seven of his league starts in 2019, adding two goals and an assist in a career-high 637 minutes. Vazquez was a key contributor during Atlanta’s run to the 2019 U.S. Open Cup title, leading the team with four goals in the competition with a pair of braces against Charleston Battery and Columbus Crew SC. The Chula Vista, California native tallied six goals and an assist in U.S. Open Cup play across three seasons.
