Giorgos Giakoumakis has been chasing the Golden Boot for a good portion of the season, and with another goal added Saturday night, he officially caught the leader. Giakoumakis is now tied in the race for most goals scored MLS this season.
With a finish to score Atlanta United's fourth goal in the team's emphatic 5-2 win over Inter Miami on Sept. 16, Giakoumakis brought his season total to 14 goals. He's now even with Hany Mukhtar of Nashville SC for the lead. (As of Saturday night, Dénis Bouanga of LAFC is now also tied with Giakoumakis and Mukhtar at the top of the Golden Boot race. Bouanga recorded a brace to leap into co-lead with 14 goals.)
Ever since arriving to MLS, Giakoumakis has shown a fierce willingness and ability to score.The striker joined Atlanta United via Europe this offseason after previously scoring goals for Celtic FC. He was the top goal scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 13 during the 2021-22 season.
