Another honor for Atlanta United’s Brad Guzan as he was awarded the captain’s armband for the U.S. Men’s National Team in their 3-2 Gold Cup victory of Martinique Wednesday.
Guzan has provided veteran leadership for a young American squad, earning Man of the Match honors in the Yanks’ first match over the weekend. The U.S. held Martinique at arms length for much of the first half, but Guzan was ready when the Caribbean Islanders got an open shot on goal late in the first half.

Martinique were able to score twice in the second half, including a cruel deflection that left Guzan with no chance. But the U.S. Men’s National Team were able to hold on for a 3-2 win that pushed them to the top of the group.
The red, white and blue now have a crucial game against Nicaragua on Saturday July 15 at 7:00pm in Cleveland (broadcast on Univision). A win would clinch a group win for the U.S. and set them up as a first seed heading into the knockout stages.
