First Touches
- Atlanta United moved onto the Round of 16 after defeating USL League One club Charlotte Independence 3-0 on Tuesday, May 7 in the Round of 32.
- The 5-Stripes are coming off a come-from-behind draw against regional rival, Nashville SC.
- This will be the fourth time these two clubs have faced each other in the Open Cup. Atlanta has won the previous three matches.
- Like the Round of 32 match, there’s a good chance some second team players see the pitch for Atlanta: “Normally, in any club, the academy kids and kids from the second team, they bring that passion, that energy, that playing for the heart and all these things. And I think that’s very important always to remember,” said head coach Gonzalo Pineda at media availability on Monday.

Charleston Battery is currently sitting at the top of the USL Championship table with 27 points. They have not lost this season so far with a record of 8-0-3; they are also undefeated at home. Charleston punched their ticket to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2013 after beating South Georgia Tormenta FC in a back and forth 3-2 affair. A hat trick from MD Myers helped the team advance.
“It’s 90 minutes. It’s 11 against 11. And then, of course, we need to be Atlanta United. We need to be on the front foot. No matter if we are away or home, we always want to be on the front foot. We expect a tough game,” said Ronald Hernández to local media.
