Statement below on behalf of Atlanta United on the passing of Anton Walkes:
“We are heartbroken to learn of the tragic passing of Anton Walkes. An inaugural member of Atlanta United, Anton was the epitome of a great teammate with a personality that lit up every room he entered. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him. On behalf of everyone at Atlanta United, we send our deepest condolences to Anton’s family, friends and Charlotte FC.”
Anton Walkes started his career with Tottenham Hotspur in his native England, and first came on loan to Atlanta United for the club's inaugural season in 2017. After a short stint in Portsmouth, he signed for Atlanta United ahead of the 2020 season and following the 2021 MLS Regular Season he was selected by Charlotte FC in the Expansion Draft. He played for Charlotte during the 2022 season.
Blank Family of Businesses' Owner and Chairman also released the below statement:
“It is a difficult time for our beloved soccer community across the globe as we mourn the loss of Anton Walkes. After joining Atlanta United in our 2017 inaugural season, Anton soon became a fan favorite and a trusted teammate, serving as team captain several times during his second time with the club. While we enjoy the competition the games bring, it is the talented, passionate athletes that we are bonded to, and it is in these tragic moments we are reminded of the impact these special players have on so many. Anton will always be in our hearts as a cherished member of Atlanta United, and I pray Anton’s loved ones, his Charlotte community and his United Kingdom family and friends find peace in knowing how loved he was by so many. May we all rejoice and celebrate the man Anton was, and be reminded of the positive legacy he leaves at such a young age. “
