Josef MartÃnez's stunning goal against New England Revolution on October 1 continues to impress. The incredible bicycle kick ranks among the best of 2022 and was nominated for MLS AT&T Goal of the Year.
The kick ranks among a total of 16 nominees around the league in the running for the yearly award. The winner is determined by a fan vote.
The goal was MartÃnez's ninth MLS goal of the season. On the play, midfielder Marcelino Moreno sent the ball wide to Brooks Lennon, who had some space on the right edge of New England's penalty area. Lennon crossed an impeccably placed ball to MartÃnez, and the Venezuelan put it past Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic on a bicycle kick. Both Moreno and Lennon were credited with assists on the play.
The goal in the 81st minute tied the match before New England Revolution eventually found the go-ahead goal to win the match.
MartÃnez previously won AT&T Goal of the Year in 2019. It was the second time in three years an Atlanta player earned the honor, joining Héctor Villalba in 2017.
