They say defense wins championships, and if that's the case then Atlanta United are in for a postseason run. It was the red, black and gold defensive players that got special notice from MLS league writers this week, as Jeff Larentowicz was named in the MLS Team of the Week. Larentowicz's 8 interceptions was the 5th-most by an MLS player in one game this season, as he dominated the midfield to keep the Red Bulls at bay. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who has now gone more than eight hours since last conceding an MLS goal, was also named to the bench.
Here's the MLS Team of the Week in full:
Bench: Brad Guzan (ATL)-Jake Nerwinski (VAN)-Aaron Long (NY)-Wil Trapp (CLB)-Djordje Mihailovic (CHI)-Jonathan dos Santos (LA)-Yordy Reyna (VAN)
Coach: Caleb Porter
