¡Bienvenido a Mexico!
Atlanta United landed in Guadalajara, Mexico on Tuesday to begin its preseason trip. The team departed Atlanta a little before noon, donning new mint green travel threads (that look pretty fresh in my humble opinion), and arrived in Guadalajara around 4 p.m. local time.
After settling in, the team had a workout at the hotel pool – a very quick one to stretch and get the circulation flowing again after a long flight.
In the evening, the team got out of the hotel to have dinner at an Argentinian restaurant. Players shared entranadas such as empanadas, guacamole, and papas fritas, ordered steak entrees like bife de chorizo and bife ancho, and indulged in sweet desserts like crème brulée. The evening concluded with the whole group singing 'Happy Birthday' to Alex De John. (Although, funny enough, De John's birthday is listed as May 10. I suspect there's more to this story...)
We'll certainly have more on Wednesday as the team hits the training pitch for the first time. Tuesday is just the first of a 13-day long stay in Mexico. The team will train and have more team-bonding activities (head coach Gonzalo Pineda announced that he wants to take the team to play paintball and foot golf). Atlanta United also plays three scrimmages against Mexican professional clubs as it gears up for its MLS opener later this month.
