After a full week of training and a match day, Atlanta United had the day off on Sunday. Players had some free time before regrouping for dinner in the evening. Some played golf, some went to watch a Liga MX match between Pumas UNAM vs. Atlas at nearby Estadio Olímpico Universitario, and others rested at the hotel.
One group traveled north to Teotihuacán to see the pyramids. There, we looked straight at the sun through obsidian, otherwise known as Mexico's gift of the gods, and saw some of the many objects that it's used for (including an ancient, and intimidating, weapon). Then, we got to see the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. We also learned some facts about the people who built these amazing structures, like how they used rocks as nails and that it was considered a privilege to climb the pyramids, up some 365 steps.
Our video team was on-site and did a superb job capturing the day. Check out their video below:
The team returns for the last two days of training in Mexico City on Monday and Tuesday. The second of Atlanta United's two preseason friendlies in México will be Wednesday, Feb. 8 against Cruz Azul.
