When your attack scores 10 goals over two matches, it's going to earn some headlines. Atlanta United's getting the love it deserves with three players recognized in the MLS Team of the week – two in the starting lineup and one on the bench.
Striker Josef Martinez gets the obvious nod after becoming just the third player in league history to score back-to-back hat tricks. His six goals this week puts him just three goals off the Golden Boot race lead, despite missing months due to injury this year.
When Atlanta United's offense is humming, midfielder Miguel Almirón is often a catalyst for it – and that was certainly the case this week. The Paraguayan dominated possession and added an assist and five key passes in the final third over the two games. That earned him a spot in the starting lineup as well.
Finally, making the bench in the MLS Team of the Week this week was winger Yamil Asad. The Argentine was his usual menacing self in Atlanta's high press defense, and added 5 key passes and a goal in the final third to put an exclamation point on another exceptional week's performance.
Here is the MLS Team of the Week in full:
Bench: Sean Johnson (NYC)-Jackson Yueill (SJ)-Wil Trapp (CLB)-Yamil Asad (ATL)-Yordy Reyna (VAN)-Diego Rubio (SKC)-Tosaint Ricketts (TOR)
