ATL UTD 2 travels to Canada for its second match of the week following a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay Rowdies Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Luiz Fernando scored his first goal of the season while Dion Pereira recorded his first assist to put Atlanta ahead 1-0 in the 34th minute. However, Tampa equalized in the 45th minute through Leo Fernandes. The Rowdies added three goals in the second half to extend its unbeaten run of seven matches to open the season.
Ottawa lost 1-0 to Louisville City FC on April 20 in its last outing. Lucky Mkosana scored the game’s lone goal in the 60th minute. Fury FC is 1-1-0 at home this season and won 2-0 against Loudoun United in its last home match April 13. Overall, Ottawa is 2-2-1 and sits 13th in the Eastern Conference.
Sunday’s match marks the third meeting all-time between ATL UTD 2 and Fury FC. Ottawa won the first match 2-0 on May 12 last season at TD Place. The second meeting finished as a 1-1 draw but took nearly two months to complete. After beginning June 16 at Coolray Field, the match was suspended due to inclement weather. It was rescheduled for August 7 and continued in the 45th minute at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Both goals were scored in the original matchup at Coolray Field.
