Recent Form
Both sides will be returning to MLS play after an extended break since exiting Leagues Cup in the group stage. Atlanta, who was in group South 3, fell 4-0 to Miami in its first match before falling in penalties to Liga MX club Cruz Azul after ending regulation tied 1-1. Seattle lost 3-0 to Real Salt Lake in the first match of group West 2. The Sounders then let up a two-goal lead to Liga MX's Monterrey, falling 4-2.
Series History and Last Meeting
Atlanta earned its first-ever win over Seattle last season in thrilling fashion at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The 5-Stripes got on the board first in the 23rd minute before Seattle tied things up in the second half. In the fourth of five minutes of stoppage time, former defender Andrew Gutman smashed a left-footed shot into the side netting of the goal to secure the three points. The win put Atlanta's record against Seattle at 1-1-3 (W-L-D).
Players To Watch
Tristan Muyumba (Atlanta United) – After joining Atlanta in the beginning of the summer transfer window, the new signing has made an immediate impact on the team. The midfielder made his first appearance and start for the 5-Stripes in their last match against Liga MX side Cruz Azul, where he maintained an 87% passing accuracy and completed 54 passes in the full 90 minutes. Many players and head coach Gonzalo Pineda were impressed by Muyumba's debut and have confidence in what he will bring to the team for the rest of the season.
LĂ©o ChĂº (Seattle Sounders) – The Brazilian midfielder has evolved into a young star in his second season with the Sounders. The 23-year-old has 11 goal contributions (three goals, eight assists) on the year, including his brace that earned him MLS Player of the Matchday last month in the Sounders' 3-2 comeback win over Vancouver. Atlanta's backline will have to be disciplined when facing ChĂº, as he has proven to be dangerous when connecting with USMNT forward Jordan Morris and Uruguayan midfielder NicolĂ¡s Lodeiro.
Defender Brooks Lennon on playing in Seattle:
"They're a great team, fantastic crowd. They really bring the energy in Seattle. It's one of those games on the schedule that you circle at the beginning of the year, and for it to come at this time in the season, I'm really excited."
