Atlanta United gamer Paulo Neto has qualified to the FIFAe World Cup for the third consecutive year.
Neto will be the only player from the eMLS circuit to participate in the event that hosts the top 24 gamers in the world. Our second ATL UTD gamer, Young, Minnesota United's Lamps and St. Louis City's NRasek didn't qualify.
Qualification took place in London, England during the FIFA Global Series 2023 Playoffs, where the best 64 gamers got together looking for those 24 spots to the World Cup.
Paulo Neto was seeded into Group A and unfortunately started out with a loss vs Jonny from Germany, who represents 2. Bundesliga team SC Paderborn 07, by an aggregate score of 7-4. The result meant that Neto was given left with one more life during the competition after he was sent to the Lower Bracket.
There, he faces Korean gamer SR7 from Quest eSports and our Brazilian defeated him without a problem by an aggregate of 8-1. In the second round of the Lower Bracket, Paulo faced off against Colombian Brechex an also defeated him by a score of 8-1.
Neto then advanced to the final match of the tournament where he encountered fellow Brazilian Crepaldi from MGCF eSports, and in an incredible match up, Paulo won by 7-6 in aggregate, earning his spot in the FIFAe World Cup.
After a long and exciting season, all 24 spots for the FIFAe World Cup 2023™ were claimed this past weekend. The best players from the recently concluded EA SPORTS™ FIFA 23 Global Series Playoffs will now face each other from during the FIFAe Finals as they compete for the title of FIFAe World Champion.
Since its inception in 2004, the FIFAe World Cup has captivated fans and players alike, establishing itself as the pinnacle event of FIFA esports for individual players. Legends like the two-time World Champion and recent member of FIFAe's Hall of Fame, Alfonso Ramos, and the 2018 World Champion Mosaad Aldossary, have not only raised the bar of excellence but have also served as inspiring figures for players all over the world to persevere in an intense qualification process during each season of the nearly two decades of the competition's existence.
As customary, the FIFAe World Cup will take place along with the FIFAe Club World Cup and the FIFAe Nations Cup, as part of the FIFAe Finals 2023. The competition will be divided into a group stage and later knockout stages until the final match where the FIFAe World Champion will be decided, and all tournaments will be played in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
