Sunday was a memorable night for Atlanta United, one that fans of the Five Stripes will remember forever. But the performance on the field is getting its due notice from league writers, who have named two Atlanta United players in the MLS Team of the Week.
Leandro González Pirez was named in the back line for his contributions all over the pitch. Not only did he score the historic first ever goal in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, he also had a lockdown performance in the back. The Argentine won four duels and had three interceptions, limiting a potent FC Dallas to just two shots on target
Meanwhile, Miguel Almirón put in a stellar performance in the middle of the park, orchestrating an electric attacking performance for the red, black and gold. He had an astounding five key passes – including one assist – and three shots on target, with one bouncing off the woodwork. If Almirón and Pirez can keep up this stellar form, the rest of the league will have to watch out during this Atlanta United home stand.
