Atlanta United 2 forward Romario Williams was named the United Soccer League’s Player of the Week for Week 30 of the 2018 season. The striker scored both goals as ATL UTD 2 rallied from a halftime deficit on Sunday to take a 2-1 victory against the Charleston Battery. The two-goal performance highlighted a week which saw Atlanta pick up four points in two matches. It was Williams’ third and fourth goals of the 2018 USL season.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second half, ATL UTD 2 wasted no time finding the equalizer in the 48th minute off a corner. Andrew Carleton sent a ball in the center of the box where Williams scored with a glancing header to the far post. Less than 20 minutes later, Williams and Carleton connected again for what would be the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. Standing at the midfield stripe, Carleton spotted the run of Williams and delivered a pin-point through ball into the 18-yard-box where the Jamaican striker took one touch around goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky and calmly passed the ball into an empty net with his left foot.
This is Williams’ first Player of the Week selection. Williams received 47 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market.
ATL UTD 2’s season continues tomorrow against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at 7:00 p.m. EST at Coolray Field. The match will be streamed live on ESPN +.
