Atlanta United announced on Thursday morning that the club has a new number 10.
Thiago Almada will be allowed to switch mid-season from his current number 23, which he has been wearing since the beginning of the 2023 season. Almada will now wear the number 10, which is traditional and meaningful for creative and attacking-minded soccer players, especially from South America.
The Argentine midfielder was surprised by the club's staff Thursday morning when he arrived to train at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. A number 10 jersey was hanging from his locker room along with his new number 10 training gear.
Almada becomes the fifth player in club history to wear the number 10 kit, after Miguel Almirón, Pity MartÃnez, Marcelino Moreno and Luiz Araújo. This is the third number Almada will wear with the 5-Stripes since he joined the club ahead of the 2022 season, after wearing the numbers 8 and 23; he will wear the number 10 starting this Sunday when Atlanta United visits the Seattle Sounders in the return of the MLS season, following the Leagues Cup break.
