Thiago Almada is having an MVP-caliber campaign for Atlanta United. And now, the World Cup winner has another milestone to add to his list -- only this one is off the pitch and in retail stores.
On Friday, Major League Soccer announced the best-selling jerseys and the Atlanta United playmaker appeared on the list. Almada ranks no. 8 on the list of top-selling adidas jerseys in the league sold on MLSstore.com.
It’s the first time that Almada has appeared on the list since joining MLS in February 2022. Two members of Atlanta United have led the league in previous seasons: Miguel Almirón (2017) and Josef Martínez (2021).
Thirteen nationalities were represented on this year's list, and Almada is one of four players from Argentina to make the top 25. He joins Enzo Copetti (Charlotte FC), Sebastián Driussi (Austin FC) and Lionel Messi (Inter Miami CF). Almada is also one of three players on the list to have won a FIFA World Cup along with Sergio Busquets (Spain) and Messi (Argentina).
Unsurprisingly, the top-selling jersey in MLS is Messi. St. Louis CITY SC forward João Klauss and Nashville SC midfielder Hany Mukhtar sit at second and third, and Austin FC forward Sebastián Driussi and LAFC forward Carlos Vela round out the top five.
The rankings were based on overall retail sales of adidas MLS jerseys on MLSstore.com since January 1 through September 12, 2023.
