Tristan Muyumba's impact has been major for Atlanta United ever since he joined the club during the summer transfer window and the midfielder added to that in a big way Saturday night. Hosting Inter Miami CF at home, Atlanta United found the first-half equalizer to Inter Miami's opener with Muyumba's first career goal for the club.
The goal occurred in the 36th minute. Fullback Brooks Lennon crossed the ball near post where Muyumba was running on. The French native sent a redirected header toward the opposite post. His flick initially hit the post and bounced over the goal line before ricocheting back into play, making it close enough to be looked at with VAR. After review, the goal was confirmed to even the scoreline 1-1.
Both Lennon and Edwin Mosquera were credited with assists on the play. That brings Lennon's total assists on the year to double digits (10). It's the first assist on the season for Mosquera.
The goal is Muyumba's first for Atlanta United and his first since April 2022 when he played in Ligue 2 with EA Guingamp. Muyumba celebrated with his first career goal with his new club by crossing his arms, reminiscent of Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young's well-known "Ice Trae" celebration.
After a few starts and stops, Muyumba's goal opened the floodgates for Atlanta's attack. The 5-Stripes would go on to add two more goals within an eight minute span -- one a Miami own goal, the second a smash from Lennon -- to enter the halftime break leading 3-1.
