Atlanta United signed Colombian winger Edwin Mosquera from Deportivo Independiente MedellÃn to a four-year contract on July 12, 2022. Mosquera, an Under-22 Initiative signing, occupies an international roster spot.
Mosquera made 12 MLS appearances in 2022 and recorded two assists after joining the club during the summer transfer window. After spending the first half of 2023 on loan at Defensa y Justicia in Argentina, the winger re-joined Atlanta in July and went on to record three goals and one assist in 12 appearances (four starts) during the regular season. He scored his first professional goal against FC Cincinnati on Aug. 30 and scored in consecutive matches against Montreal and Philadelphia on Sept. 23 and Oct. 4. Mosquera made three substitute appearances in the 2023 MLS Audi Cup Playoffs and scored in Atlanta’s 4-2 win against Columbus in Game 2 of Round One.Â
The 22-year-old made a total of 55 first division appearances in Colombia, Brazil and Argentina before joining Atlanta. Born in Quibdó, Colombia, Mosquera joined Independiente MedellÃn in 2016 at the age of 15, later joining the First Team in 2019 and going on to make 40 total appearances for the club. He made his debut in the Colombian first division on April 28, 2019 in a 1-1 draw against Alianza Petrolera and his first start in the following match, a 2-1 win against Atlético Huila. He made 18 league appearances in his first season in 2019. In 2020, Mosquera made 16 appearances, including seven in Copa Libertadores, making his debut in the competition on Feb. 19, 2020 against Atlético Tucuman.
After making six appearances for MedellÃn to start the 2021 league season, he was loaned to Juventude of Brazil’s Série A in May where he made one appearance before returning to MedellÃn in October of 2021. Mosquera was loaned to Aldosivi of the Argentine first division in January of 2022 where the winger made 14 appearances this season and recorded four assists.
International: Mosquera has represented Colombia at the U-20 level, starting a pair of friendlies against Ecuador’s U-20s on Dec. 16 and Dec. 19, 2020. In the first match, a 5-1 win for Colombia, he tallied a goal and an assist. He has two appearances for Colombia’s U-23 side, starting two friendlies against Peru’s U-23s in December of 2023. Mosquera was called up into Colombia pre-Olympic qualifying camp in January 2023.

2022 (Atlanta United): Joined the club during the summer transfer window and started one of 12 MLS appearances. Played 302 minutes between left and right wing, recording two assists. Made his MLS debut on Aug. 6 in a 2-1 win against Seattle. Recorded an assist in a 2-2 draw with Columbus on Aug. 21. Recorded an assist in a 4-2 win over Toronto FC Sept. 10.
