Atlanta United acquired Matheus Rossetto on Feb. 3, 2020 from Athletico Paranaense. The Brazilian midfielder has started 44 of his 60 MLS appearances over the past three seasons. In 2022, Rossetto set MLS career-highs in appearances (24), starts (19) and minutes (1603) and recorded his first MLS assist in a 2-1 victory against Real Salt Lake on July 13. He finished the season with a passing accuracy of 91.3%.Â
With the exception of a short loan stint in 2016 with Ferroviaria, Rossetto previously spent his entire career with Athletico Paranaense, joining the club’s Academy in 2009 and making his professional debut in the Campeonato Paranaense in 2015. He then made his debut in Brazil’s top Division, Serie A, on July 30, 2016 against Sport Recife. Overall, he made 71 appearances in Serie A and tallied five goals and two assists.
Rossetto played a role in Athletico Paranaense’s success since joining the club as a professional. The club won Copa Sudamericana for the first time in its history in 2018, with Rossetto making three starts. He also made 11 appearances with seven starts during the 2017 Copa Libertadores where Athletico Paranaense reached the knockout round.
2022 (Atlanta United): Started 20 of his 25 appearances across all competitions. MLS: Set MLS career-highs in appearances (24), starts (19) and minutes (1603). Recorded his first MLS assist in a 2-1 victory against Real Salt Lake on July 13. Finished the season with a passing accuracy of 91.3%. Captained the team for multiple matches. U.S. Open Cup: Started Atlanta’s match against Nashville SC in the Round of 32.
2021 (Atlanta United): Started 15 of his 21 league appearances. MLS Cup Playoffs: Started Atlanta’s first round match against New York City FC.
2020 (Atlanta United): Started 10 of his 17 appearances across MLS and Concacaf Champions League play. Started 10 of his 15 MLS appearances. Concacaf Champions League: Made two substitute appearances against Club América in the quarterfinals.
2016-2020 (Athletico Paranaense): Made 71 appearances in Brazil’s first division. Registered five goals and two assists. Started seven of his 11 appearances in Copa Libertadores. Made three starts during Athletico Paranaense’s run to the 2018 Copa Sudamericana title.
