Players To Watch
Santiago Sosa (Atlanta United) – Sosa was the Star of the Match for Atlanta United on the road against Montréal. The midfielder from Argentina got the nod and made Gonzalo Pineda's starting XI for the eighth time this season. Sosa played 89 minutes, held an accurate pass percentage of 94 percent and made three interceptions to help the 5-Stripes keep their second straight clean sheet. The performance landed Sosa on the bench for MLS Team of the Matchday.
Carles Gil (New England Revolution) – New England's captain sat out of their last match against Red Bulls due to yellow card accumulation but will be back on the pitch Wednesday against Atlanta. Gil is one of two members of the Revolution to be named an MLS All-Star, along with Djordje Petrović. Gil, the Landon Donovan MVP in 2021, has seven goals this season, including the equalizer in the 93rd minute in the previous meeting with Atlanta, and nine assists.
Captain Brad Guzan on the match against New England:
"Carlos Gil not playing the last game, he's going to be certainly fresh and ready to go. The way their game finished, they'll have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Just from that standpoint, it's going to be an intense game. It's going to be a game that we need to make sure we're ready for."
"Us, in terms of communicating, understanding when we can get pressure to the ball, understanding when we need to stay compact, all these things are going to be hugely important. We talked about wanting to play, as much as we can, the same away as we do at home, so we want to be an attack-minded, on the front foot sort of team."
