Summer has arrived in Atlanta and the 5-Stripes have been busy. Between the FIFA window early in the month, two away matches and the first ever American Family Insurance Cup, Atlanta had an eventful June. Let's look back at last month's top moments.
1. Que Jogo!
The Brazilian striker does it again! With his first assist of the season, Franco Ibarra found a pocket to pass to Luiz AraĆŗjo. The SĆ£o Paulo native was able to use his speed and agility to bypass the Toronto defense, netting a left-footed goal to tie up the match at BMO Field.
2. A Cup Designed by the 17s
Atlanta United won the first ever American Family Insurance Cup against CF Pachuca. This matchup was a new challenge for the 5-Stripes, who faced off with the Liga MX Clausura season runner-up. Atlanta won 3-2 in an exciting match that featured goals from Josef MartĆnez, Luiz AraĆŗjo and Dom Dwyer.
3.Ā”Vamos Luiz AraĆŗjo!
June was a great month for our favorite #19. With three goals in four matches AraĆŗjo showed up big for the 5-Stripes. The Brazilian striker was quick to convert during the Inter Miami match, scoring in the fourth minute. AraĆŗjoās skills and contributions earned him both our Goal and Performer of the Month.
4. The Man. The Myth. The āStache.
Not only did Rocco RĆos-Novo make his MLS debut during the match against Inter Miami, but the Argentine keeper also earned a clean sheet. During the match, Inter Miami forward Ariel Lassiter came up on the wing and took a shot at goal, but RĆos-Novo dove and got two hands on it to send it out.
5. MĆ©xico ā”ļø Atlanta
This month, some new faces joined the team. RaĆŗl GudiƱo and Juanjo Purata joined Atlanta United mid-June and have been training with the team in preparation for their MLS debut. Purata comes on loan from Tigres UANL, one of the biggest clubs in Liga MX. GudiƱo is a Mexican National Team keeper and made a name for himself in Chivas.
