Atlanta United 2 announced the signing of American defender Daniel Russo on Dec. 22, 2023. Prior to Atlanta, Russo spent four seasons at Notre Dame and garnered All-ACC Third team honors in 2022 and 2023.
In his final season with the Fighting Irish, Russo played in 21 matches and made 19 starts, tallying four goals and two assists as Notre Dame made a run to the NCAA Tournament Final before falling 2-1 to Clemson. In 2022, Russo appeared in all 17 contests and led the Irish in points (16) and goals (6), scoring his first career hattrick in a comeback win over Michigan. As a sophomore, he played in all 24 matches, including 11 starts, while adding three goals and four assists. In his freshman season, Russo played in 13 matches and recorded a goal and an assist.
The Jackson, New Jersey native played his prep career at Jackson Memorial and was a member of the New York Red Bulls Academy before heading to South Bend.
