Atlanta United selected Jon Gallagher with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. He played 29 games for Atlanta United 2 in his first year as a professional. He started 26 games and finished the season with a team-best six goals and added five assists.As a three-year starter at Notre Dame, Gallagher made a combined 84 appearances and 63 starts over four years. The forward scored 39 goals and added 15 assists during his college career and was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in each of his four seasons at Notre Dame. A Dundalk, Ireland native, Gallagher represented England Schoolboys at the U-18 level and has also had trials with European clubs Juventus, Olympique Marseille, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.
2019 (Atlanta United): Did not make an appearance during the MLS season. Gallagher was included in his first Matchday 18 for the First Team on 4/27 vs. Colorado Rapids. USL: Started and played in 8 matches for ATL UTD 2 in his second season as a professional. He scored one goal and added one assist before being loaned to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen FC. Gallagher’s lone goal in the USL Championship came in the season opening 2-0 victory vs. Hartford Athletic. His assist helped ATL UTD 2 secure a 3-3 draw on the road at Charlotte Independence. On 6/22 the club announced his loan until the end of the 2019 MLS season. That loan was extended on Jan. 9th, 2020 until the end of the 2019-20 Scottish Premiership season. Aberdeen FC (Scotland): Has made 27 total appearances for the club, scoring one goal and adding three assists in all competitions. His lone goal came in Scottish Premiership action against Glasgow Rangers. He played and started all six Europa League Qualifying matches, where he produced three assists.
2018 (Atlanta United): Did not make an appearance during the MLS season. USL: Played 29 games for Atlanta United 2 in his first year as a professional. He started 26 games and finished the season with a team-best six goals and added five assists. He scored two goals in his professional debut in ATL UTD 2’s inaugural match. Gallagher proved to be a versatile player as well, starting the season as a forward, then playing in midfield and as a right back. His 2,279 total minutes played with ATL UTD 2 ranked third on the team in 2018.
2017 (Notre Dame): Named to the 2017 All-ACC First Team and United Soccer Coaches' All-American Second Team. Started all 20 games his senior year, recording 13 goals and adding two assists. Netted goals in each of the Irish's ACC Tournament matches against Pittsburgh (Nov. 1), No. 3 UNC (Nov. 5) and No. 17 UVA (Nov. 8). Had a goal and an assist against No. 5 Clemson on Oct. 6. Scored twice against No. 24 Michigan (Oct. 10). Semifinalist for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy.
2016 (Notre Dame): Named to the College Soccer News All-America Second Team and NSCAA All-South Region Second Team. Garnered All-ACC First-Team accolades and named the 2016 ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Led the ACC in goals scored (14) and points (35) during junior season, tying for third in the conference with seven assists – all three totals were career-high efforts. Tallied a team-high five game-winning goals, connecting on the winning tallies against UConn (Sept. 13), No. 2 Syracuse (Sept. 23), Pittsburgh (Sept. 30), Duke (Oct. 21) and Loyola (Nov. 20). Scored at least one point in 12 of 21 overall starts during the campaign. Named the top offensive player at both the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament and the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. Connected on two goals and added one assist to open the 2016 season against UC Irvine (Aug. 26). Scored in a win over eventual NCAA champion No. 5 Stanford at the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic (Sept. 2). Broke through for two goals and an assist in a 4-0 shutout of No. 6 Indiana on Oct. 4. Added goals during NCAA Championship play against both Loyola (Nov. 20) and No. 4 Louisville (Nov. 27).
2015 (Notre Dame): Appeared in and started all 22 matches at forward leading the Fighting Irish in goals (9) and points (21). Selected as the Notre Dame Monogram Club Co-Most Valuable Player. Named to the All-ACC Third Team and NSCAA Division I All-South Region Second-Team. Included on the Soccer News National Team of the Week on Sept. 8. Scored game-winning goals in a 2-0 victory over No. 24 South Florida (Sept. 4) and a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh (Oct. 31). Earned MVP honors at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament after contributing two goals to help lead the Irish to a 4-0 triumph against UAB (Sept. 6). Scored on the road at No. 3 North Carolina (Sept. 18).
2014 (Notre Dame): ACC All-Freshman Team choice. Played in 21 matches during freshman season. Scored three goals and added three assists to finish with nine points. Earned first career point with the primary assist on the match-winning goal to lead Notre Dame to a 2-0 victory against No. 8 North Carolina on Sept. 26. Served the game-winning assist in the 98th minute of a 3-2 win against No. 16 Louisville (Oct. 10). Scored first career goal in the 78th minute of a 4-1 victory at Duke (Oct. 17). Added second goal of the season in the 88th minute of a win at Virginia Tech (Oct. 25). Connected on the game-winning goal in the 69th minute to defeat Ohio State 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Championship (Nov. 23).
