The Atlanta United Community Fund (AUCF), in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), launched the GA 100 initiative in September 2020, with the aim to build up to 100 mini-pitches, futsal courts or refurbish fields across the state to provide access to the game in underserved communities across Georgia. There are currently 40 pitches either completed or in-development (scroll down to see the pitches).
The AUCF awarded $1.5 million to LISC to lead the installation of the first 20 mini-pitches across the state. In 2023, AUCF increased its investment in the project when it invested an additional $3.36 million to construct an additional 30 mini-pitches, committing funding toward building or restoring up to 50 mini-pitches throughout the state.
GA 100 consists of:
- Soccer Field Development: Construction of mini-pitches in under-resourced communities in Georgia to increase access to safe sports activities, specifically soccer, for youth across the state
- Match Funding: The grant requires a minimum community local match (cash or in-kind donation) of one dollar for every AUCF dollar (1:1) of up to $100,000
Focus
- To provide under-resourced communities in Georgia the financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local mini-pitch soccer fields.
- To develop mini-pitch soccer fields with input from local stakeholders that serve the needs of the community.
- To build interest and excitement for the game of soccer across Georgia communities.
